Watch: Sterling Ball Talks About The History Of A Legendary Bass Design

In the clip, Sterling Ball discusses the releationship between his father, Ernie Ball, and Leo Fender as well as the history of the two guitar manufacturers. Ball explains how he was called upon by Fender himself to make crucial calls on the orginal StingRay bass when he was only a teenager, as well as how he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind to one of the industries most prolific manufacturers. 

 

Ball also talks about the new 40th Anniversary Series, showcasing the “Old Smoothie Bass”, replicated from the StingRay prototype #26 designed by Leo Fender for Sterling Ball during his time spent testing and developing the original prototypes back in the 70’s.
