triple j announces Hottest 100 Of The Decade countdown

Instead of jumping the gun on their decade wrap up lists – we’re looking at you, Pitchfork – the J’s have decided to hold their countdown some time in March, with voting set to open to the public in February. It’s set to follow in the vein of the station’s previous retrospective countdowns, such as their Hottest 100 Of All Time and 2013’s Hottest 100 Of 20 Years, which saw public polling result in ’90s icons Nirvana and Oasis taking out the top spots.

Given the decade we’ve had, it’ll be interesting to see who gets voted into this one. We reckon Kanye’s got a red hot crack at the top spot with ‘Runaway’, while Beyonce, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino and Grimes could easily sneak into the top ten. It wouldn’t surprise us if Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett and Flume scored high on the local front, and we’re hoping to see a bit of Sampa The Great action up the top end too.

Personally, I really hope Future cracks the countdown with ‘Mask Off’ – either his version or this one, I really don’t mind either way.
