There’s A Lot More To Know About ST. Vincent’s Guitar

Released through Ernie Ball Music Man, St. Vincent’s guitar makes the ultimate statement for all women in music – make some room guys. The singer-songwriter has designed her guitar specifically for a woman to play.

In a recent interview with Guitar World, Clark talked about the disadvantages women musicians face in regards to shape and weight of a traditional guitar. “”I’m not a very big person” she said. I can’t even play a Sixties Strat or Seventies Les Paul. I would need to travel with a chiropractor on tour in order to play those guitars.”

So, instead of working around the guitar, Clark has made the guitar work around her. It’s unique shape allows “Room for a breast. Or two”, as she eloquently displayed via Instagram, a post which was followed by over 13,000 likes.

In addition to comfort, Clark wanted to ensure the instrument allowed her to show off her stage outfits and one of the “best features of the female body”, the waist. “I carry my guitar pretty high so I had to make all of these costumes based on the fact that you wouldn’t be able to see if I had a waist or not. I wanted to make something that looked good and not just on a woman, but any person.”

The guitar, made with a body of African mahogany and a rosewood neck, will be available in two colours, black or Vincent Blue – a colour hand-mixed by Clark herself. While the guitar is also suitable for men to play, the creation of a female-driven instrument is a massive step in the right direction.
