Spotify is developing a social listening feature

Collaborative Playlists Will Be Easier Than Ever

Spotify is currently trialing a new Soical Listening feature that allows users to share queues of upcoming tracks to listen and edit with their friends in real time.

The new feature will allow users to build a track list by scanning one friend's QR-style Spotify Social Listening code, giving all users involved the capability to add and change songs, giving users and their friends the opportunity to collaborate and listen to tracks together, with all users listed in the 'Connect With Friends' menu able to control and change the music.

The Social Listening feature seems to share some similarities with the now discontinued 2010 app Turntable.fm, which allowed users to join people in "rooms" and listen to a DJ.

At this time, the Social Listening component seems to be being trialed by Spotify employees only, and Spotify themselves are yet to confirm whether Social Listening will become part of the official app.

Spotify has also been testing a 'stories' feature recently - read more about that here
