SHOW & TELL WITH: TIM MAXWELL OF GRIM RHYTHM

What piece of equipment do you have to show us today?

A germanium Big Muff made by Electro-Harmonix.

How did you come across this particular item?

One day I was on the internet, searching for the ultimate tone, and I came across some big muffs. Then a quick browse of eBay hooked me up with the ultimate muff I was after.

What is it that you like about it so much?

It gives you the best of both worlds by having a fuzz option and an overdrive option, for frying up the hottest of licks. Many big muffs only supply fuzz, and it’s great to have some versatility within this beast.

How do you use it and how has it shaped the way you write music?

I basically have it on constantly, and it gives the edge and bite I need for maximum sustain for days. I’m always culling pedals, but this one will always stay on the board. I pretty much shape the way I write music around mad riffs, so this pedal helps stroke both my ability and my ego.

Tell us a little about what you have coming up?

We’re going on a national tour for our album What Do You Know About Rock’n’Roll in June. We’re stoked to assault everybody with our huge riffs. There are plenty more riffs in the vault that are bound to be unleashed sooner rather than later.

What Do You Know About Rock’n’Roll by Grim Rhythm is out now. They are playing shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Geelong in June, for more information head to grimrhythm.bandcamp.com.
