Midnight Oil announce new gig dates, reveal possible album plans

The warm up shows will take place at Anita’s in Wollongong and Canberra’s Royal Theatre, with tickets going on sale to Midnight Oil’s mailing list from 2PM AEST on Tuesday April 9.

The band will then be touring extensively, heading abroad for concerts in London, Manchester, Dublin and Paris, as well as multiple music festivals across central Europe, before returning down under for the Big Red Bash in July.

A jam-packed calendar continues for the band, with their intention to head straight into the studio following the July Festival. Hopeful of a 2020 release, Midnight Oil are looking to record their first tracks since 2001, a gap that spans the length of Peter Garett’s political career.

The Big Red Bash will perhaps be the perfect way to experience Midnight Oil, with the three day festival set deep in the desert of central Queensland where deep rolling red sand dunes provide a vibrant backdrop to the stage. Also performing will be greats Kasey Chambers, The Living End, Busby Marou, Richard Clapton, 1927, Wendy Matthews, Neil Murray and more.

Taking place from Tuesday July 16 to Thursday July 19, the event will be Midnight Oil’s only major Australian gig for the year, with the Wollongong and Canberra affairs being more intimate events. However, the dates do leave a gap for a possible Splendour in the Grass appearance, who’s lineup released this week while mysteriously leaving a space for an unnamed Australian act.
