Mesa-Boogie celebrates 50th anniversary with new documentary series

The videos have featured the likes of both company founder Randall Smith and popular Mesa-Boogie artists such as Metallica’s James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, as well as Carlos Santana, John Petrucci, Walter Trout and more.

Episode I features Smith and Santana discussing the origins of the company, while Episode II sees Smith dive into the design of the famed Mk. II series, discussing his reasoning for including an effects loop and hot-wiring them to create that classic high-gain tone that kicked the door open for thrash in the ’80s. For anyone steeped in the lore of boutique amplifiers, consider the series a must watch.
