Matt Corby, Sampa The Great sweep the 2019 J Awards

Recorded from the confines of his home studio in northern New South Wales, Corby performed almost every instrument heard on Rainbow Valley in conjunction with producer and songwriter Dann Hume, who also mixed the record. Although the record was certainly up against some stiff competition from the likes of Holy Holy, Stella Donnelly and Northlane, we’re stoked to see Corby take home the prize here: as his Splendour set earlier in the year proved to us, he’s easily one of Australia’s most talented artists, and the award caps off a tremendous decade of progress for him.

Elsewhere, Sampa The Great, who nabbed two Music Victoria awards a mere night before, was awarded Double J’s Artist of the Year award, while Tones and I was blessed with the Unearthed Prize. Cloud Control’s Heidi Lenferr was given the inaugural You Done Good award for her FEAT. intiative, raising awareness towards renewable energy in the Australian music industry.
