Live Music to Return to Australian TV Thanks to Triple J

With musical direction from Triple J Unearthed’s Community and Digital Producer Max Quinn, the show will kick off on Wednesday October 31 at 9:30pm with performances from Ball Park Music, Vera Blue, Angus and Julia Stone and The Presets, and all filmed in front of a live audience.

Each episode will be ‘curated’ by different artists, who will invite two guest acts to perform before collaborating on a song together at the show’s close. Other artists that have been revealed to appear in future episodes are Illy, Odette, Baker Boy, Wafia, Mallrat and Angie McMahon.

There has been a dearth of music on Australian television in recent years with nostalgia growing for the glory days of weekly shows such as Countdown and Recovery. Despite calls for revivied version of those programs, which resulted in the ABC running episodes of Countdown under the Classic Countdown monikor, the prospect of seeing contemporary Australian music live on TV again is indeed heartening.

While we wait, let’s revisit our Top 10 Moments of Countdown.

The Set will premiere on ABC TV on Wednesday October 31.
