Hilltop Hoods make ARIA Chart history

The Adelaide MC’s have pipped the likes of Powderfinger and Silverchair to nab the top spot with an impressive six number one albums, including five studio releases and 2016’s Drinking From The Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung remix album.

While it looked like Hilltop Hoods might have faced a challenge from the chart resurgence of film soundtracks for Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born due to their high-profile Oscars wins, ultimately, the group ran away with the top spot, setting a new benchmark for Australian artists in the process.

Although Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham both share the record for the most number one albums on the ARIA charts, with nine chart topping releases each, you can’t help but admire Hilltop Hoods’ momentous triumph here – particularly in a nation where hip-hop continues to be overlooked by the mainstream consumer. Well done fellas!

Hilltop Hoods’ latest album, The Great Expanse, is available now via Universal Music Australia.
