Glass Animals share details of new album Dreamland

The New Album Arrives This July

In case you missed it, UK psychedelic outfit Glass Animals have announced their highly anticipated follow up to 2016's How To Be A Human Being with their new full-length effort, Dreamland.

The project, primarily led by producer and vocalist Dave Bayley, will be releasing the new record onto the world on Friday July 10. Dreamland has been previously teased by Glass Animals with their recent singles 'Your Love (Déjà Vu)' and the Denzel Curry assisted 'Tokyo Drifting', with each release expanding on the band's broad spectrum of influences.

Dreamland is also the group's first full-length release since drummer Joe Seaward was involved in a life-threatening motorbike accident in July 2018, with Bayley discussing how the experience informed the recording of the album at length in a statement shared recently.

"The idea for this album came at a time of confusion and uncertainty," Bayley said. "My best friend was in the hospital. I didn’t know if he’d make it. The future was damn scary and completely unknown. During those weeks in the hospital, it was so difficult to look forwards that I found myself looking backwards. Digging around in my mind, pulling up old memories, finding comfort in them even if they were uncomfortable in themselves.

"Speaking to friends and family, I’ve realised that a lot of people are experiencing a similar sort of confusion now. Everything that we thought we could see clearly in front of us has been thrown into the air, and all the while, we can’t be out finding our footing. We can’t be out creating new memories, so…we’re diving back head-first into the old ones. I hear that in conversations. I see it in what people are watching on TV. In what we’re listening to. In what we’re eating. In dreams.”

To appeal to the creative community out there, Glass Animals have also launched their own open source website, which lets you download some of Bayley's samples and stems, as well as lyrics, videos and other little Easter Eggs. They've also shared the album's title track 'Dreamland', paired with a quirky music video filmed by Bayley in isolation via Zoom. Watch it below.
