Foxtel cuts Smooth from air, details new music channels

The easy listening channel, which was launched back in 2013 and hosted by Marcia Hines and Cameron Daddo, was a joint partnership between Foxtel and fellow broadcasters NOVA Entertainment, who also run the station’s queasy radio counterpart Smooth FM.

Smooth will be replaced on the airwaves by Foxtel’s own dedicated arts and culture programming Foxtel Arts, with which it has previously shared airtime with since 2017. Foxtel Arts will now run around the clock starting from midnight July 1.

Foxtel has also shared new details of the ViacomCBS-owned channels replacing the outgoing CMC, MAX and [V], which the broadcater promised viewers would offer a “broader variety of music genres”. Although it looks like they’ve just about got all bases covered, there does seem to be a rather MAX-sized hole in their rock programming – but maybe MTV Classic will come through with the goods.

MTV HITS: The chart-toppers, award-winners and stadium-fillers from Australia and across the globe. A non-stop music festival of the hottest hits right now.

Club MTV: The urban club scene curated into a channel that never sleeps.  The ultimate dance party where the beats are endless R&B, hip hop and dance hits.

MTV Classic: Since 1981 MTV has been the home of Music TV, MTV Classic immerses itself in that proud heritage. From Aussie Icons to the global supergroups and superstars of the ’80s, ’90s and naughties.

CMT: Country Music Television featuring the best in country music from Nashville to Tamworth and everywhere in between.

NickMusic: NickMusic is a kid-safe and family-friendly music video channel for 4-15 year olds featuring chart-topping hits by the world’s most popular artists.
