The announcement of the H.E.R. Signature Stratocaster is quite a big deal for Fender: it’s the first ever signature model to be crafted alongside a Black female artist in the company’s 74 year history, and promises to uphold Fender CEO Andy Mooney’s pledge that 2020 would see the launch of more female signature models than ever before.
Featuring a Chrome Glow shimmer finish and a matching anodised aluminum pickguard, H.E.R.’s new Mexican-made signature model is definitely one eye-catching guitar from face value, but it’s the specs that really pull it over the line.
Combining a classic alder body and maple C-shaped neck and 9.5″ radius fretboard, the H.E.R. Stratocaster aims to combine vintage playability with all the versatility demanded by the modern player. A classic six-point synchronised tremolo and vintage tuners help to seal the deal, while a matching headstock and ’50s Fender logo really help to take the guitar to a whole new level entirely.
The H.E.R. Signature Stratocaster is also loaded with a trio of Fender Vintage Noiseless Stratocaster single coil pickups, which eschew the 60-cycle hum of typical single coils to deliver all the quack and chime you could ever desire – all without that pesky hum that makes performance and recording a chore.
To cap the guitar off, a H.E.R. graphic is also stamped upon the neck-plate of the guitar, adding a personalised touch and commemorating the significance of the guitar. These models really look a treat, and it’s sweet to see Fender show some props to artists operating outside of the typical domains associated with guitars – we can’t wait to check them out when they land in Australia.
