In the video, which you can watch below, Smith thanked everybody who sent him birthday wishes and revealed that he’s been hard at work on the new design while in solitude, promising a ‘new synthesiser design’ that will be shipped out this August. Considering the company only unveiled the beefy Pro 3 back in January, it looks like we might be copping a hefty double dose of Dave Smith magic this year.
Dave Smith is a living legend in the music world, and it’s fair to say that he’s got the Midas touch as far as R&D goes. The man’s been designing synths for almost 50 years, including the Sequential Prophet 5 and DSI 08, and has also been crucial to the development of products for Intel, Yamaha and Korg. Suffice to say, the prospect of another high-end Sequential synth is something I’m totally clinging to right now – can’t wait!
