Caribou announces new LP Suddenly, shares single ‘You and I’

Set for release on Friday February 28, Suddenly promises to be the most unpredictable Caribou project to date, with new single ‘You and I’ seeing Snaith inflecting his signature warm sound with unpredictable sample chops and lashings of guitar towards the end. It’s reminiscent of earlier album track ‘Home’ – one of my personal favourite tracks for 2019 – which revolved around an Avalanches-esque soul sample and a booming Wu-Tang inspired groove.

In a statement accompanying the record’s announcement, Snaith explained the meaning behind ‘You and I’, saying that “‘You and I’ was one of the first tracks on the album that I started and one of the last tracks I finished – it existed in some form or other throughout the whole arc of making the record. It also captures a lot of what the record, and the title of the album, are about – the track changes suddenly and unpredictably and it is about a change in my life that happened out of the blue.”

Given the colourful, kooky nature of Caribou’s earlier works, as well as his disco-tinged Daphni experiments from earlier in the year, it’s fair to say that there’ll be a lot of people waiting on this record. Check out the tracklisting and artwork for Suddenly below.
