Behringer provide update on new Oberheim OB-Xa synth clone

Their take on the classic '80s poly-synth could be arriving sooner than previously expected

Behringer have provided a production update on their upcoming clone of the legendary Oberheim OB-Xa, revealing a number of new features and sending synth nuts all over the world into a frenzy.

Fittingly titled the UB-Xa, the copy is currently being worked on by an engineering team based in Manchester, who have been building the firmware and modulation matrix for the unit and tweaking the feature set ready for production.

Behringer’s production update video reveals that the team have also added a brand new double mode, allowing users to play two patches indepently for a fat analogue poly tone. They’re even beginning to work on writing the very first factory patches for the UB-Xa, which could mean that the synth is a lot further along in production than many first assumed.

Check out the initial sounds of the UB-Xa in the full production update via Behringer below. The prototype unit looks pretty clean and sounds predictably wonderful; let’s hope we get our hands on this one sooner rather than later.
