The Adelaide Guitar Festival is back again in August 2016, and is looking to be one of the biggest iterations yet, with local and international acts scheduled to play and a host of other events locked in.
Headline acts include The Punch Brothers, Béla Fleck, Maria Bermudez, Flamenco Areti, Ricardo Gallén and Ken Murray, all set to play over the four days at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
“It is the breadth, creativity and calibre of guitarists in this year’s program that perfectly reflects why Adelaide was named as a UNESCO City of Music. The Adelaide Guitar Festival has gained an international reputation as a prestigious and successful event that showcases both Australian and overseas talent,” said Adelaide Festival Centre CEO Douglas Gautier.
It wont all be about the headline acts though, as there is plenty to do other than see them play, including Meet the Maker sessions with luthiers, the Guitar Expo, where people can check out some rare guitars and the Yamaha Come and Try room, as well as film screenings, workshops, talent shows and artist talks.
In the lead up to the festival, the Guitars in Bars and Other Places program will see up to 300 local acts play in over 100 different venues from mid-July, which is sure to raise awareness and get people interested in the festival. This program will also work with SALA to get local artists playing and collaborating together at local exhibitions through August.
